Analyze an Electricity Market Optimization Model

Welcome to the second tutorial. The first tutorial explored the fundamental concepts of building an electricity market optimization model. This tutorial is aimed to introduce and describe the tools and options in SAInt GUI for processing and to extract the simulation results. This tutorial series will cover the key concepts of plots, tables, export, and scripting in SAInt GUI. The examples and functions presented in this tutorial correspond to the network and scenario from the previous tutorial series.

To follow this tutorial, load the network and scenario created in the first Energy Market tutorial, Fundamentals of Direct Current Unit Commitment Optimal Power Flow (DCUCOPF) Scenarios, into SAInt GUI.

If needed, execute the simulation by clicking the Electric from the simulation tab once the network and scenario have been loaded.

This tutorial is divided into four steps, each focused on a key concept used to process and extract data from the SAInt GUI. The first explains the use of pre-defined and custom plots to visualize the network’s input properties and output results and the object within it. The second focuses on using object tables and custom tables to analyze and compare specific results. The third introduces the script editor which uses IronPython and explains how to use SAInt’s built-in functions to evaluate different properties and results. The last explains the procedure for exporting results from the simulation and other network related data from SAInt GUI.

Time to complete:

Continue to work off the model created in the first tutorial. However, a copy of the files required for this tutorial are available in the sub-folder .\Energy Markets\Tutorial 1-2 of the folder Tutorials. Download the tutorials data from the "Model Ready Datasets" category of the community Forum.
